Topic: How Roth IRA Conversions Can Help to Increase After-Tax Wealth Accumulation and Reduce the Tax Burden of Multi-Generational Wealth Transfer

While large one-time conversions of Traditional IRA assets to Roth IRAs have been broadly panned by many for their tax inefficiencies, a series of annually calculated conversions, particularly during the “donut hole” years of retirement, can offer surprisingly meaningful financial benefits.  Not only can these conversions increase retirees’ tax flexibility, but they also have the potential to drive greater after-tax wealth accumulation, reduce estate tax liability on multi-generational wealth transfers, and lower the income tax burden of beneficiaries in the post-stretch era.
