Potential Tax Law Changes and What To Do About Them Now

It’s not clear whether proposed changes in the House bill will become law, but one thing is certain: Future tax laws are unlikely to become more favorable than they are right now. Investors who can afford to act should act now.

Thomas J. Pauloski is a National Managing Director of Wealth Strategies; he works with private clients and their advisors on wealth transfer strategies, focusing on tax-efficient wealth management and asset allocation decisions. Tom was appointed a National Managing Director in 2009. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, he was a partner in the trusts and estates department at Winston & Strawn LLP in Chicago. Tom is on the faculty of the American Bankers Association National Trust and National Graduate Trust schools; he has also been an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and has taught estate planning classes at Northwestern University Law School. Tom earned a BS in environmental engineering from Northwestern University and a JD, magna cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Loyola Law Journal. He retired as a commander from the US Naval Reserve in 2003, with 21 years of combined active duty and reserve service.

Marc Penziner is a principal and financial advisor in Bernstein Private Wealth Management’s New York Office, providing asset allocation and wealth planning advice to high-net-worth families, business owners, corporate executives, and foundations. Mr. Penziner leads the firms practice in upstate NY. He specializes in retirement planning, the preparation and sale of privately held businesses, risk management, and the spending policy and asset allocation guidelines of endowments and foundations. He hosts the podcast “Marc to Markets” which has listeners in over 55 countries on 6 continents. He joined the firm in 2003 as a private client associate. Previously, Marc was an account executive for Katz Media Corp. in New York City and Washington, D.C., with a focus on national and local political campaigns. Marc earned a BS, cum laude, in media management from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where he was a Chancellor’s Scholar.  He is former Treasurer of the Professional Development Council of the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University, served on the board of the Syracuse University National Alumni Association, and is also a Syracuse University Pathfinder.  He is a supporter of Columbia University Medical Center, The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, and the Center for Lymphoid Malignancies.
